If you know of or are part of a startup ecosystem, you must have heard of Steve Blank. He is known as “The Godfather” of the Silicon Valley and he is the precursor of the “Lean Startup” term, Eric Ries' book (his apprentice) became a guidebook for any entrepreneur. Blank became known for having taken part in 8 startups, having 4 IPOs done, losing the total amount of $35M from two investors but giving back $1B each, right after. Today, Blank is a professor at Stanford University and is part of the United States Department of Defense where he applies the very same concepts he teaches.

Founded in 2015 by Fábio Teixeira, Hypercubes develop a technology that allows nano satellites to photograph Earth’s surface and analyze soil health. This means pulling data around which chemical element is either scarce or abundant in the soil, identify contamination, plagues and other information that will help to optimize production. Hypercubes surfs on a very timely technology wave where the same technology that makes smaller cell phones also deployed to satellites. To put into perspective, a mini satellite weighs from 100 and 500kg, while the nano satellites can weigh from 1 to 10kg. They measure basically the same as a shoe box and cost far less than a regular satellite, this is what makes the startup one of the most sustainable startups in the market in this segment.

Trivia: Initially participating in a challenge provided by NASA, this entrepreneur perceived that the prize wouldn’t cover the research costs, then he redirected the idea for something sustainable and that would have the same impact. The idea was so successful that it dragged attention of some big players, such as the entrepreneur Beto Sicupira, considered the 4th richest in Brazil.

Duburgas dropped out of his graduation course at Stanford to start Brex. He didn’t even get to finish his first University year, following the same path as other entrepreneurs that made history in the technology world, such as: Bill Gates, from Microsoft and Mark Zuckerberg, from Facebook. Alfredo has also worked for ZTE in Madrid, Spain orchestrating the partnership between ZTE and Telefonica within the Latin American market.
